The U.S. Senate campaign of Republican Party nominee Dave McCormick on Thursday confirmed it is behind new billboards, displayed throughout Pennsylvania, which tie Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) to President Joe Biden amid calls for the president to step aside due to concerns about his fitness following the June 27 presidential debate.
McCormick’s billboards juxtapose a photo of Casey, wearing a face mask emblazoned with the Biden campaign logo, next to the an image of the 81-year-old president, alongside the words, “Same old, tired ideas.”
As of Tuesday, the Republican’s campaign had placed billboards in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Bloomsburg and Scranton, where the president was born, according to The Washington Free Beacon.
In the wake of Biden’s poor debate performance, Casey has continued to support the embattled president, even as a growing number of Democratic Congressmen say they want him to step aside in favor of another candidate.
Asked if he supported Biden on Tuesday, the Democrat declared, “I’ve said so numerous times,” and pointed to his comments after the debate, when he said Biden merely “had a bad night and debate.”
The Republican has repeatedly highlighted previous statements by Biden and Casey about the closeness of their relationship, and last weekend accused the Democrat of participating in a “conspiracy of silence” with other members of his party in a bid to conceal the president’s deteriorating condition.
McCormick has additionally called for White House officials to consider their “responsibility” to remove Biden from office using the 25th Amendment if they determine he is incapable of fulfilling his duties as president.
Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is reportedly launching its own billboards which demand drivers perform an internet search for Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation plan to reform the administrative state and achieve conservative political goals if Trump wins in November.
Trump has distanced himself from Project 2025, with the former president and his supporters instead pointing toward the new Republican National Committee platform and his own Agenda 47 issues statements.
DNC spokesman Rosemary Boeglin claimed to The Pennsylvania Capital-Star that Americans “do not support” Project 2025 and declared Democrats “won’t let them get away with it.”
The outlet reported the Biden campaign has placed both English and Spanish-language versions of the billboards “in Philadelphia and other cities in battleground states.”
Biden’s campaign on Thursday released a memo to its supporters that acknowledged “real movement” among voters toward Trump after the debate, but maintained the president has a path to reelection that leads through Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.
